Lot 9. Cover sheet, Jacmel 24 January 1847, to Bordeaux with VF strike of Gonaives
negative oval Paye marking. On the front is a strike of the British “Colonies & ct. Art. 13” and on the back flap
arrival markings for London and Bordeaux. Charged in France 45 decimes. By Haitian post to Jacmel where it was picked up
and carried, according to ship schedules, by the Royal Navy Steamer “HERMES” to England. Overall about fine. Horizontal
file folds, one passing through the Gonaives marking but nicely ironed out. The Gonaives oval is nice. The remainder
of the item is about good to fine.
