March 2011 Society Auction
Lot 22. Royal Mail Packet letter, Gonaives to Bordeaux 1 March 1848. On reverse is a
good strike of the large double circle “JACMEL”, partly obscured by a tear caused by opening the letter, and London
and Bordeaux date stamps. On the front is the “Colonies & Art. 13” Anglo-French accountancy marking and manuscript
“40” (decimes due). Horizontal file fold near top does not much affect the markings. Letter is sound and clean. One
page in French, can be read, appears to be commercial.
