March 2011 Society Auction

Lot 17. Cover, St. Marc to Paris with merchants cachet dated July 11, 1898, carried outside the mails to New York where it was forwarded to Paris, paid by US postage, 10 cent value of first bureau issue (1894). Postage is tied by NY duplex cancel dated 22 July 1898, also a strike of ‘PARIS ETRANGER’ date stamp along side. On reverse is a VF strike of “KUNHARDT & Co.”, New York, the forwarder. Fold lines at top and left, the one at top slightly affecting the stamp. Two small tears at top not affecting stamp or markings.
