March 2011 Society Auction

Lot 24. Packet letter, Port au Prince to Bordeaux 25 June 1857 by Royal Mail, British accountancy marking GB 1F60c, Calais ambulant, and manuscript style 8 (decimes due) on front. On reverse is VF strike of British large double circle “JACMEL” 28 June 1857, and London and Bordeaux date stamps. Letter is sound and slightly soiled with file fold at top not affecting the markings. Contents one page in French, appears commercial perhaps with some comment on local conditions. Neat and fine overall.
